USC Trojans Stadium

The Los Angeles Coliseum is the USC Trojans Stadium, and has been since it opened on October 6, 1923. Located directly in the city for which it is named, the Coliseum holds an estimated 92,000 people and features a grass playing surface. While it has also hosted many other sporting clubs, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and both the NFL's Raiders and Rams, the only team that has called it home from its inception through today are the University of Southern California football Trojans. In fact, the first even ever held there was a game between USC and Pomona College. The Trojans won that game by the score of 23-7 and went on to win many, many more games within the confines of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It has become as interwoven within the fabric of USC football tradition as Tommy Trojan and the song "Fight On!"

USC Trojans Stadium: Home To Memorable Moments

The Coliseum hasn't just been the USC Trojans stadium. It has also been the site of many of the team's most memorable gridiron moments. It was the host site for the first ever meeting between USC and UCLA, won handily by the Trojans, 76-0. That was in 1929. A decade later, the two teams played to a scoreless tie in one of the greatest games ever played. During a 1974 game, the Trojans trailed Notre Dame 24-7 at the half, but erupted for 48 points in the third and fourth quarters, beating the Fighting Irish 55-24 in one of the best comebacks in NCAA history. And on September 23, 2000, USC played their 500th game at the Los Angeles stadium, beating San Jose State 34-24. It is a venue that has silently witnessed 11 National Championship teams and six Heisman Trophy winners, including Hall of Fame running backs Marcus Allen and O.J. Simpson, play the game as few have ever played it before or since.
